Public safety vehicles, such as police cruisers, fire trucks, and ambulances, travel with a plethora of mission-critical equipment essential to emergency and non-emergency response situations. Vehicles carry everything from rugged computing technology to officers, civilians, and other cargo-related items.
Choosing the correct mounting and docking solutions is just as important as choosing the right computing equipment. Especially during a high-speed pursuit, a mobile computing device can quickly become a dangerous projectile if not correctly mounted.
With the International Association of Chiefs of Police Show (IACP) in Dallas just a few days away, I thought it made sense to discuss the role that docking solutions play in the public sector. I recently sat down with David Skiver – From Havis's product team – a leader in mobile workforce docking solutions.
In this episode, Dave and I discuss everything you need to know about rugged computing docking stations for police, fire & EMS.
This will be a great episode you won't want to miss.

Rugged computers are engineered, designed, and built at their core to work and survive in extreme or harsh environments. However, an organization sometimes requires a customized mobile computing solution for a specific use case or mission.
Most rugged computer manufacturers are not in the business of customization. And while Getac offers a variety of pre-configured Select SKUs engineered for specific industry use cases, there are instances when a select SKU just isn’t a perfect match for a particular use case, and a Customized solution is really needed.
What if an organization has a critical need and the size/scope of the project isn’t a large-scale deployment, and the solution isn’t standard to COTS Rugged products?
I recently sat down with Joe Schweon – of Pro Custom Group, the market leader in the customization of COTS rugged laptops, rugged notebooks, rugged servers, and tablet products.
In this episode, Joe and I discuss how PCG makes customized rugged computing solutions possible for many customers and deployments, even as little as a one-unit deployment. This is a great episode you won’t want to miss.

How does an organization measure ROI (Return on Investment) when it comes to recouping revenue from a technology deployment and how does total cost of ownership (TCO) (Total Cost of Ownership) fit into the equation?
I recently spoke with an independent industry analyst who specializes in Financial Modeling and Technical Operations, with an emphasis on predicting how rugged technology helps or hurts the workforce over time. Jason constructs program-specific analytics models out of publicly available data and privileged information from a variety of computer vendors and OEMs
In this episode, we discuss TCO + ROI as it relates to technology deployments in enterprise organizations. Whether you are in the middle of a technology deployment or just thinking about it – you won’t want to miss this episode.

The Internet at The Speed of Light - Part 1
Access to data is critical to our daily lives. It is said that every day, 2.5 quintillion bytes of data is created. Google processes more than 20 petabytes of data daily, which includes 3.5 billion search queries.
5G technology can increase data transmission speed by up to 100 times, and decrease latency from 20 milliseconds to one millisecond. As technology continually evolves, it is safe to say that the way we transmit and receive data will need to evolve too.
I recently spoke with Alistair Banham and Bill Galione, from pureLifi and Randy Phifer of Getac. We discussed what I consider a game changer in wireless connectivity called LiFi.
pureLiFi is one of the companies that is bringing the next generation of wireless communications to the market. LiFi uses light rather than radio frequencies to transmit data and promises to augment, enhance, or transform wireless networks with the market's most secure and reliable wireless communications.

An oil rig is a high-risk environment – where a single mistake can result in catastrophe – life safety is of the utmost importance. Accuracy and time could literally mean the difference between life and death for a large group of people, working on an offshore oil rig.
I recently spoke with Steve Bardocz President of Savance Workplace – a company focused on employee and visitor management – including emergency mustering software that helps ensure all staff and visitors are accounted for during an emergency or crisis.
In this episode, Steve and I discuss how Savance Workplace and Getac transformed the way TransOcean one of the world’s largest providers of offshore contract drilling services for the oil and gas industry became more efficient with their emergency muster protocol in the event of an emergency at sea.
